According to sources, Paul Pogba, a midfielder for Juventus, tested positive for testosterone and received a four-year anti-doping sentence.
Pogba, 30, was placed on provisional suspension back in September 2023 following the discovery of DHEA in his blood, a hormone that can increase testosterone levels and boost an athlete’s stamina.
His B sample came back positive, and in October 2023, it was determined that he had failed the drug test.
After Juventus’ match against Udinese in August of last year, the former Manchester United player was chosen at random for testing.
He saw no action as a substitute in Juve’s 3-0 triumph.
The report states that “the prosecution did not believe the defense’s story of the drug being accidentally consumed. Crucial issue for Pogba’s attorneys, who turned down the plea agreement.”
Given that the Frenchman turns 31 next month, there is speculation that this could be the last of his remarkable career.
In the summer of 2022, Pogba rejoined Juventus after a disappointing second stint at Manchester United.
Before the decision was made, Emmanuel Petit stated that Pogba ought to give up if he receives a four-year suspension.
“Paul Pogba should definitely retire if he is given a four-year ban,” he said to Betway (quotes via Goal).
“You are not even allowed to visit the training grounds after serving such a lengthy suspension.
“That means you won’t have any teammates, balls, or anything to bring to the park or gym. For a player who is thirty years old, four years is a long time.
