The South West geopolitical zone’s workforce should be paid a new national minimum wage of N794,000, according to the Nigeria Labour Congress, or NLC.
At Thursday’s public hearing of the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage in Ikeja, Lagos, Funmi Sessi, the chairperson of the NLC’s Lagos State branch, made this plea.
Sessi stressed that every South West union member had accepted this pay demand collectively.
On January 30, 2024, Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu, opened the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja to a 37-member panel discussing the new minimum wage.
Earlier, it was reported that there are significant signs that organized labor would advocate for a minimum wage of N500,000.
