BREAKING: Ningi Suspended By Senate over Budget Padding Claims

Senator Abdul Ningi

The Nigerian Senate has suspended Senator Abdul Ningi over his allegations of padding the 2024 budget brought before it by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu – GCFR.

Speaking with BBC on Saturday, he disclosed that the Northern elite are unhappy with the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government as the North has been relegated to the sidelines.

He said, “This is true (about the review of the government) for the past three months, we have engaged consultants to review the budget for us. We have some experts that are working on it line by line. We have seen the huge damage that was done not only to the north but the entire country in that budget. We are supposed to sit with the Senate President to inform him about what we have observed.”

The suspension was announced after the Senators engaged in a long session over the matter. He was suspended for three-months.

A motion to suspend Ningi for 12 months over allegations of criminal misinformation and breach of peace in the National Assembly and the country by extension was moved by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim before Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong and other lawmakers pleaded with the house to temper justice with mercy.
