BREAKING: NARTO Halts Planned Nationwide Strike

The planned nationwide strike by the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has been put on hold.

Following the suspension of operations and cessation of petroleum product lifting by tanker drivers due to severe economic realities, a meeting with the Federal Government and stakeholders was held on Monday.

Because of the exorbitant price of automotive gas oil, better known as diesel, which is required to power their trucks for the transportation of petroleum products throughout Nigeria, NARTO members had vowed to go on strike across the nation on Monday.

Similar to premium motor spirit, or gasoline, which is currently selling for more than N600 a liter, the cost of diesel has increased dramatically recently due to the nation’s currency problem. In Nigeria, diesel currently sells for more than N1,250 a litre.
