BREAKING: Labour Party’s Abure Arrested In Edo

Julius Abure, Sacked Labour Party National Chairman

In the capital of Edo State, Benin City, police have taken Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), into custody. It was reported that Abure was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon.

Press reporters were informed of the development by Tijani Momoh, the Nigeria Police Force Zone 5 spokeswoman.

At press time, Momoh had not provided any information regarding Abure’s apprehension.

The party’s suspended national treasurer, Oluchi Opara, has accused Abure of financial misconduct, falsification, and misappropriation of party monies realized during the 2023 presidential race, leading to a crisis involving the national chairman of the party.

Even as Opara asked that the national chairman account for both naira and dollar donations to the party in the last poll, Abure and the party refuted the accusations.

Peter Obi, the LP presidential candidate in the most recent poll, had stated that outside auditors would examine the party’s financial records.

The Labour Party suspended Opara for six months last week, stating that in contrast to Opara’s accusations of mistreatment directed at the party’s leadership, the party only raised N1.2 billion from member donations and the sale of forms to some candidates running in the 2023 elections.
