Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has instructed the Emirs who were dismissed following the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir of Kano to vacate the palaces within 48 hours.
Five emirs appointed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje are primarily impacted by this directive.
Ganduje had divided the Kano emirate into five parts and appointed an emir for each.
The newly created emirates included Karaye, Gaya, Bichi, and Rano.
However, the Kano House of Assembly, controlled by the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), repealed the law that Ganduje used to implement these changes.
The legislators sent their bill to Governor Yusuf, who signed it into law on Thursday evening.
At a press conference following the signing of the law, Governor Yusuf ordered the removed monarchs to vacate their official residences and palaces and turn them over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs within 48 hours.
