Army releases detained Delta Monarch

The Nigerian Army has released the traditional ruler of Ewu-Urhobo kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Clement Oghenerukevwe Ikolo, Urhukpe 1, who was earlier declared wanted and arrested after reporting himself to the Police over the gruesome murder of 17 soldiers in Delta State on 14 March 2024.

He was released during a brief at Army Headquarters by the Director, Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu.

He was released to Senator Ede Dafianone (Delta Central) who stood surety.

Senator Ede was on the team which accompanied Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North) to pay a visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, on Wednesday, to seek the release of the traditional ruler.

The spokesman for the Army, Major General Clement Nwachukwu said Ikolo was released because nothing linked him to the killing of 17 soldiers in Okuama.

He, however, noted that no evidence exonerates him as yet.
