The American International School of Abuja has made known its intention to refund fees paid for the children of Yahaya Bello, immediate-past governor of Kogi state.
The school, therefore, urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to make available what it termed “authentic banking details” for the recovery.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the Lagos Zonal Commander of the EFCC in which it revealed that the sum of $845,852 has been paid in tuition for the past three years, precisely the 7th of September 2021 to date.
“Please forward to us an official written request, with the authentic banking details of the EFCC, for the refund of the above-mentioned funds as previously indicated as part of your investigation into the alleged money laundering activities by the Bello family.
“Since the 7th September 2021 to date, $845,852.84 in tuition and other fees have been deposited into our bank account,” the letter added.
“We have calculated the net amount to be transferred and refunded to the State, after deducting the educational services rendered as $760,910.84.
“No further additional fees are expected in respect of tuition as the students’ fees have now been settled until they graduate from ASIA.”
In the same vein, it promised to make details available to the anti-graft agency if there were any further deposits by the Bello family.
Receipts and other documentation proving that Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi, paid $845,000 to the American International School in Abuja in advance for his children’s tuition have also surfaced online.
The receipts were among the documents designated as ‘evidence h’ by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The document also highlighted the American International School Abuja’s response to the EFCC’s request for a $760,910.84 reimbursement.
Earlier, News VEO reported that, Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused Yahaya Bello of removing $720,000 from the state coffers, while in office, to offset his child’s school fees in advance.
