On Tuesday, April 23, 61 blind candidates took the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG)-sponsored 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organised by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Enugu center. The candidates are part of the 577 others who sit for the exams nationwide. Candidates selected from nine states in the southeast and south-south areas which include Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Anambra and Rivers held their exams at the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus(UNEC). Through the Emergency Operations Center, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) is coordinating response operations at all levels by means of a multi-partner, multi-sectoral Incident Management System. The NCDC indicated that 5,669 suspected cases of Lassa fever were recorded, with 152 deaths reported, translating to 18.3% Case Fatality Rate (CFR). In order to improve efficiency, the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, has advised the Federal Government to merger the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) with the police.
