Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu received a Notice of Impeachment from the Edo State House of Assembly on Wednesda
Within seven days, the deputy governor is supposed to reply.
According to a government source, Shaibu’s eventual removal is certain because 22 of the 24 legislators have signed the notice of impeachment.
The impeachment notice is the most recent development in the conflict between State Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, which began when Shaibu declared his desire to run for the governorship in the middle of last year.
Shaibu was proclaimed the victor of the state’s parallel PDP gubernatorial primary a few weeks prior, with Asue Ighodalo being victorious in the main election.
According to reports, Shaibu’s primary for governor was conducted at his home in the state capital, Benin City.
Shaibu was declared the primary election winner by returning officer Bartholomew Moses, who stated that the deputy governor received more than 300 votes to win the contest.
