A blast rocked a cafe in Bengaluru, India’s technology hub, injuring at least four people on Friday. The explosion occurred at Rameshwaram Cafe during the bustling lunch hour, drawing crowds from nearby offices.
Details about the cause of the blast remained scarce, with authorities indicating that a bomb squad would conduct further investigation into the incident.
Divya Raghavendra Rao, the co-founder and managing director of the cafe chain, disclosed that there were two explosions within a brief span of 10 seconds, resulting in injuries to one customer and three employees.
Rao clarified that the explosion did not originate from the kitchen but rather in the area designated for customer handwashing. She reassured that all the injured individuals were now in stable condition.
CCTV footage from the cafe has been provided to assist law enforcement in their inquiry into the blast’s cause. Television coverage revealed visible damage to a pillar inside the cafe, indicative of the explosion’s force. Witnesses recounted hearing a loud noise and observing smoke emerging from the scene shortly after the blast occurred.
Witnesses further described scenes of chaos, with some individuals sustaining injuries to their arms and legs. The aftermath of the explosion saw identification cards scattered around the cafe premises.
Although initial reports suggested five casualties, official confirmation from the police was pending. Three of the injured individuals were transported to a nearby hospital, where medical staff confirmed two had minor injuries while the third remained in intensive care with severe burn injuries.
