According to a video issued by the presidency on Wednesday, Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde, the prime minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, presented his resignation along with that of his administration two months after winning general elections.
In the video, he was seen presenting President Felix Tshisekedi with his resignation on Tuesday, his last day in office.
In the vote on December 20, which also resulted in the president’s reelection for a second five-year term with a huge majority, Sama Lukonde and 27 other members of his ministry were awarded seats in parliament.
In order to create a party majority and form a new administration, Tshisekedi chose Augustin Kabuya as his party’s general secretary at the beginning of the month.
Parties supporting the president took roughly 94% of the seats in the National Assembly, according to preliminary figures that are still pending confirmation by the Constitutional Council.
In February 2021, Tshisekedi appointed Sama Lukonde as prime minister following the dissolution of his government with Joseph Kabila.
Affairs will be managed by the outgoing administration until a new one is appointed at a later date.
