Ghana’s coach Chris Hughton has been fired following the Black Stars’ early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Hughton’s team only managed two points and finished third in Group B after failing to win all three of their group stage games in Cote D’Ivoire.
The Ghana Football Federation said in a statement on Tuesday that the executive council made the decision to fire the Englishman.
“With immediate effect, Chris Hughton has been relieved of his responsibilities as head coach of the senior national team, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) wishes to declare.
The executive council has also decided to abolish the Black Stars’ technical team.
According to the announcement, “The Ghana Football Association will provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars in the coming days.”
Being among the top third-placed teams, Ghana still had a chance to advance over Mozambique, despite the disappointing stalemate on Monday.
But on Tuesday, Cameroon made sure that never happened by defeating The Gambia 3-2 to officially eliminate the Black Stars from the competition.
