The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the opening of applications for the 2025/2026 Federal Government Scholarship under the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA).
This scholarship aims to support Nigerian students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies abroad.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Undergraduate Applicants: Minimum qualification of seven distinctions (A’s & B’s) in WASSCE/WAEC (May/June) only, including English Language and Mathematics. Age limit is 17-20 years, and certificates must be from 2024 only. Certificates should not be more than two (2) years old (2023 & 2024) for Non-African Countries. For African countries, the age of certificate is one year (2024) only.
- Postgraduate Applicants: Minimum qualification of a First Degree with at least a 2nd Class Upper Division. Age limit is 35 years for Master’s Degree and 40 years for Ph.D. Additional requirements include a completed NYSC with discharge or exemption certificate and evidence of readiness to be released by the employer.
Bilateral Education Agreement
- Undergraduate (UG) studies tenable in Russia, Morocco, Hungary, Egypt, and Algeria;
- Postgraduate (PG) studies tenable in Russia (for those whose first degrees were obtained from Russia), China, Hungary, Serbia, Romania.
Field of Study
- Undergraduate level – Engineering, Geology, Agriculture, Sciences, Mathematics, Environmental Sciences, Sports, Law, Social Sciences, Biotechnology, Architecture, Medicine (very limited), Pilot Engineering, Neurologist;
- Postgraduate level – (Masters Degree and PhD) in all fields.
Application Process:
- Visit the Official Website: Access the Federal Ministry of Education website and click on the Federal Scholarship Board icon on the homepage.
- Complete the Application: Carefully read the guidelines provided and fill out the online application form. Print out the completed application form.
- Prepare Required Documents: For undergraduate applicants, prepare WAEC/WASSCE certificate (original or digital copy for 2024 WAEC) and National Identification Number (NIN) Slip. For postgraduate applicants, prepare First Degree certificate, NIN Slip, and NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.
- Submit the Application: Submit the application to the specified contact (normally the Swiss Embassy) responsible for your country of origin.
Important Deadlines:
- Application Portal Opens: December 2, 2024.
- Application Portal Closes: January 12, 2025.
Additional Requirements for Selected Candidates:
- Authenticated copies of academic certificates.
- Data page of a valid international passport.
- Medical reports from a government hospital.
- Birth certificate and indigene letter.
- Police clearance certificate (if required).
