Nigerian stand-up comedian Bovi Ugboma has expressed his strong stance against beating children as a form of discipline.
In a recent episode of “The Honest Bunch” podcast, Bovi emphasized that children should not be beaten, regardless of their misbehavior.
He shared a personal experience involving his son, who, when angry, threw objects and broke the television on three different occasions. Bovi noted that while he was able to afford replacements, the situation could have been different if he couldn’t.
He further explained that when disciplining children, it’s important to ask oneself if the goal is to correct the child or if it’s driven by frustration.
“I don’t advocate for beating children. You should let children be. My son broke television, whenever he’s angry he’ll throw stuff and break, so it got to an age where he got to and I saw the remorse, he broke three TVs,” he said.
“Thank God for capacity if I couldn’t afford another TV then the approach would have been totally different. That’s why I tell people that most times we hit kids, check are you really trying to correct them or you’re frustrated”
