According to the Rivers State Police Command, three of its agents who kidnapped two travelers and demanded $3,000 from them will be subject to an orderly room trial and questioning, respectively.
As she presented the suspects to reporters in Port Harcourt on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, explained that the action was a component of the internal disciplinary actions implemented against agents implicated in illegal operations.
A Superintendent of Police named Iringe-Koko added that the N4.2 million in cash had been found and given to the intended travelers.
The police officers, who included an inspector and two assistant superintendents of police, had taken their gullible victims to three different states before robbing them of the N4.2 million sum.
“In response to a distressing incident involving the unlawful abduction and extortion of two young men by three of our officers, ASP Doubara Edonyabo, ASP Talent Mungo, and Inspector Odey Michael, the Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the public that it has taken a decisive action,” the statement read.
The victims were detained in Abia State and transported to Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers states in turn, on suspicion of fraud by an unidentified complainant.
They were forced to pay $3,000, or N4.2 million, in extortion. The officers engaged in the incident were immediately apprehended, and the matter was thoroughly investigated to determine the facts.
On January 18, 2024, the extortion money was found and given back to the victims.
“It has been determined, after a thorough investigation, that the officers’ conduct were blatantly against the law and the moral principles anticipated of Nigeria Police Force personnel.
