A ceasefire deal between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah has been agreed upon and took effect on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
The truce, brokered by the U.S. and France, aims to halt the deadly conflict that has been ongoing for over a year.
The agreement stipulates a 60-day cessation of hostilities, during which Hezbollah fighters are expected to retreat 40 kilometers from the Israeli border, and Israeli ground forces will withdraw from Lebanese territory.
The ceasefire is seen as a significant diplomatic achievement, but the situation in Gaza remains tense, with ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed the ceasefire and thanked the U.S. and France for their efforts.
