In honor of the 20th Guinness World Records Day, Rumeysa Gelgi, the world’s tallest woman, and Jyoti Amge, the shortest woman, met for the first time at the Savoy Hotel in London.
Jyoti Amge, who stands at just 62.8 cm (2 ft 0.7 in), and Rumeysa Gelgi, who towers at 215.16 cm (7 ft 0.7 in), shared an afternoon tea and were presented with Icon certificates by Guinness World Records.
Rumeysa Gelgi, a 27-year-old web developer from Turkey, holds the title of the tallest woman living. Her exceptional height is attributed to a rare condition known as Weaver syndrome, which causes accelerated growth and skeletal abnormalities.
Despite requiring a wheelchair and using a walker for short distances, she embraces her role as a record-holder with grace.
On the other end of the spectrum is Jyoti Amge, a 30-year-old actress from India, who measures just 62.8 cm (2 ft 1 in), making her the world’s shortest woman. Jyoti has achondroplasia, a type of dwarfism that affects bone growth.
Despite the challenges of her condition, including short limbs and a distinct head shape, she leads a vibrant life and is best known for her portrayal of ‘Ma Petite’ in the American television series American Horror Story.
During their meeting, Gelgi and Amge discovered shared interests that transcended their physical differences. “We do have things in common; we both love make-up, self-care, and doing our nails,” Gelgi remarked.
Amge shared similar sentiments, saying, “I’m delighted that I’ve met Rumeysa, she is so good-natured, and I felt very comfortable talking to her.”
