Haiti’s international airport closed on Monday after gangs fired at a commercial flight approaching Port-au-Prince, leading several airlines to suspend services.
A Spirit Airlines flight from Florida was targeted, causing a flight attendant to be injured and the plane to divert to the Dominican Republic.
The U.S. Embassy reported the shooting as part of gang efforts to block travel. Meanwhile, clashes between gangs and police erupted in Port-au-Prince, adding to the chaos.
This upheaval occurred as Haiti swore in a new interim prime minister, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, who pledged to restore order. The country has faced significant instability, with gangs controlling much of the capital and disrupting essential services.
