Olufemi Oluyede, recently appointed acting Chief of Army Staff by President Bola Tinubu, has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant-general, indicating he may soon be confirmed as the permanent army chief.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga announced Oluyede’s appointment as acting army chief last Wednesday.
Oluyede, previously a major-general, was decorated with his new rank at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, according to sources.
This promotion suggests Oluyede will replace Taoreed Lagbaja, a lieutenant general who has been indisposed for several weeks. As of now, Lagbaja’s status remains unclear, but a statement from the presidency is expected later on Tuesday.
This is a developing story, and more details will be provided as they become available.
