Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will qualify for both the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Super Eagles are currently on track to secure a spot in the 2025 AFCON, hosted by Morocco, having begun their qualifying campaign with a win and a draw against Benin Republic and Rwanda. They currently lead Group D with four points from two matches.
However, the road to the 2026 World Cup presents a tougher challenge for the team, as they sit second from the bottom in their group with only three points from four games.
Despite this, Gusau remains optimistic.
“I have much confidence that we will qualify for the next World Cup in 2026,” he stated at the NFF’s annual general meeting.
He acknowledged the team’s rough start but noted the progress made with the recent momentum. Gusau emphasized that the players understand the stakes and that the federation will fully support the team moving forward.
