The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has revealed that out of the 67,751 candidates who sat for the 2024 In-School National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) exams, 44,000 students achieved five credits or more, including in Mathematics and English Language.
This represents 65.35% of the total candidates, according to NABTEB’s acting Registrar, Dr. Nnasia Ndareke Asanga, during the result release in Benin on Thursday.
Furthermore, 62,235 candidates, or 92.42%, scored five credits or more with or without English and Mathematics. Dr. Asanga emphasized that a lack of funding, inadequate support, and the way industries and communities perceive Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs continue to challenge technical education in Nigeria.
He called for improved legislation, teacher capacity building, better funding, and the establishment of more technical colleges to enhance TVET and bridge the gap between education and employment. He also noted that this year’s performance was lower than that of 2023, and lamented the involvement of 349 candidates in examination malpractice, stressing its negative impact on education and skill development.
Dr. Asanga reaffirmed NABTEB’s commitment to conducting exams and skill-based assessments to award certificates in business, vocational, and technical fields at both Ordinary and Advanced levels.
