Power generation in Nigeria has reached 5,105 megawatts.
Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power disclosed this in Ikot Nyong, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, on Tuesday while on an inspection visit to the Calabar Power Generation Plant, a subsidiary of National Integrated Power Project, (NIPP) in the state.
He also announced that Nigeria was targeting the generation of 6,000 megawatts of power by the end of this year.
He noted that before the current administration took office, power generation in the country was limited to no more than 4,000 megawatts.
The minister visited the power station to assess the condition of the power generation infrastructure, including the generators, turbines, and other essential facilities. He expressed his satisfaction with what he observed, highlighting that the Calabar Power Generation Plant is the most active among all the power plants managed by the Nigeria Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC).
Adelabu stated, “Coincidentally, this is the most active of all the ten plants under the NDPHC. I commend the management for their efforts.”
