Mai Son District has experienced continuous heavy rain since Tuesday, leading to severe flooding. As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, three residents have been confirmed dead and five others are missing due to landslides.
“The damage from the floods is extensive, and the numbers [of dead and missing persons] will constantly change,” said a district official.
In Thuan Chau District, another woman went missing amid the flooding. Son La City, the capital of Son La Province, saw main roads turning into torrents, flooding homes. Rescue teams have been dispatched to assist with evacuations.
In Hoa Binh Province, Provincial Road 433 leading to Da Bac District is paralyzed by numerous landslides.
Authorities are using excavators to clear the only access road to this mountainous district.
The tropical depression Prapiroon, which made landfall in Quang Ninh Province on Tuesday morning, caused heavy rains across the northern region, including Hanoi. Rain volume was recorded at 120-190 mm in many areas by 7 a.m. Wednesday.
In Xuan Mai Town, Hanoi’s Chuong My District, rainfall reached 330 mm, causing floods and forcing evacuations on Tuesday night.
