Teniola Apata, better known by her stage name Teni, is a Nigerian musician who has called on the Super Eagles to play their hardest when they play South Africa on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In an attempt to exact revenge for the loss of several Nigerian musicians at the 66th Grammy Awards at the hands of South African singer Tyla, she assigned Victor Osimhen and his associates the mission of making sure they avenge the defeat of some Nigerian artists in the hands of South African singer, Tyla, at the 66th Grammys.
In response, Teni posted a video on her Instagram page, @tenitheentertainer, pleading with the Super Eagles players to defeat South Africa in the semifinal match in Bouaké’s Stade de la Paix, in Cote D’Ivoire, to get revenge for the Grammy loss suffered by the Nigerian artists. There’s an issue, Grammy, she said. We host a lot of parties. Our groove is dead because of you.
“South Africa, Tyla’s ‘Water.’ Alright. [Victor] Osimhen, over to you. [Ademola] Lookman, over to you. South Africa, you will dance Amapiano after your AFCON defeat. You killed my groove. Grammy why?”
Remember that at the 66th Grammy Awards on Sunday, Tyla—the lone non-Nigerian contender in the first Best African Music Performance category—won the prize, beating out Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, Tems, Davido, Asake, and Olamide.
