In order to improve the quality of healthcare delivery in the state, the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital has launched a Caregiver Academy.
The state government helped built the new academy to train and equip healthcare providers within LASUTH and beyond in order to enhance the skills and knowledge needed to give high quality care to patients.
Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, the Chief Medical Director, at the inauguration ceremony expressed excitement on the establishment of the academy.
He said, there was a major shortage of professional caretakers in both the domestic and international labor markets especially those who could not stay and cater for their aged parent because of their jobs.
“LASUTH has a successful track record of providing top-quality healthcare training services with the established five different training schools, including the Caregiver Academy,” he stated.
Advising academy students not to confuse caregiver training with admission to medical or nursing schools as it is associated with a UK organisation that gives student the chance finish extra modules and earn certification.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Health, Dr Oluwatoni Adeyemi, and the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, who was represented by the Director of Medical Laboratory Services, Mr Olanrewaju Jenrola also applaud the management and the students to be a benefit of the program.
