Lydia Simon, one of the kidnapped students of Chibok Secondary School, has been rescued by men of the Nigerian Army.
This was made known through a statement from the Department of Army Public Relations on Friday, in which it was disclosed that she was rescued along with her three children by troops conducting Operation Desert Sanity III.
“Lydia, who was on serial number 68 among the abducted missing Chibok Secondary School girls, was rescued along with her three children by troops conducting Operation Desert Sanity III, around Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. Lydia was five months pregnant at the time of her rescue and claimed to be from Pemi Town in Chibok,” the statement partly read.
According to reports, out of the 271 students that were kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents, 57 girls escaped shortly in 2014, 103 were released through the intervention of the Federal Government, 20 others were freed by the efforts of the state government while 91 students are still in captivity.
The number of those in captivity has reduced with the rescue of Lydia Simon.
A week ago, parents of the 91 missing girls of the 2014 school abduction in Chibok, Borno State, wrote to the First Lady, Mrs (Sen.) Oluremi Tinubu, to make use of her Office to ensure the safe return of the Chibok girls.
