The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has called on Muslims across the nation to look out for the new moon marking the end of Ramadan 1445AH on Monday.
This was contained in a statement released on Sunday by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council in Sokoto, Sambo Wali.
“Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH on Monday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, , the Sultan of Sokoto,” the statement reads.
If the moon is sighted on Monday, it heralds the start of celebrations marking the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan observed by the Muslim community in Nigeria.
Earlier, the Federal Government had declared Tuesday, April 9th and Wednesday, 10th April, 2024 as holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
The information was disclosed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government in a statement on Sunday signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Aishetu Ndayako.
Muslim faithful were congratulated for the successful completion of the fasting in the holy month of Ramadan, and were also urged to imbibe and practice the virtues of kindness, love, tolerance, peace, good neighbourliness, compassion as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
