Out of the 25,346 applications from Benue State that were shortlisted, 19,258 have been screened by the Nigeria Police Force.
ASP Dominic Iornumbe, the head of the police recruitment team to the State, revealed this to Governor Hyacinth Alia on Friday during a visit to the Government House in Makurdi.
He stated that the team that arrived in Benue on January 8, 2024, had finished uploading the screened applicants’ papers.
If the facilities at the state-based police training school are upgraded, he said that the police and the Police Service Commission would be willing to hire a large number of state residents.
In order to enhance the number of Benue youths who have applied to be trained for the exercise, he encouraged the governor to make immediate improvements to the training college’s facilities in Annune.
Speaking to the police recruitment team, Alia bemoaned the high rate of youth unemployment in the state and claimed that the police recruitment process provides a means of removing a substantial portion of them from the streets.
He praised the Federal Government for creating the Police Training School in Tarka Local Government Area, Wanune, and designating it as a training facility.
